DLR is the national aeronautics and space research centre of the Federal Republic of Germany. Its extensive research and development work in aeronautics, space, energy, transport and security is integrated into national and international cooperative ventures. In addition to its own research, DLR has been given responsibility by the federal government for the planning and implementation of the German space programme. DLR is also the umbrella organisation for the nation’s largest project management agency.
DLR researches the earth and the solar system, provides knowledge for the preservation of the environment and develops environmentally friendly technologies for energy supply, mobility, communication and security.
Its portfolio ranges from basic research to the development of products for tomorrow.
DLR operates large-scale research facilities for its own projects and as a service provider for partners in business. In addition, it promotes young scientists, advises politicians and is a driving force in the regions of its 16 locations.
